The company was founded in 1916 when its first president, Joichi Hirokawa, started a paper wholesale business and it was incorporated in 1957. In December 2017, the new Hirokawa Co., Ltd. was registered as the succeeding corporation following the qualified split-off-type company split of the old Hirokawa Co., Ltd.
